Can kids with pdd nos be in regular classes?

Yes, they can. It depends on the level they are at when they start elementary school. Early intervention programs that involve ABA, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy can help a young child diagnosed with PDD-NOS to be in the mainstream classes in the future. As well as preschools designed for special education students.

The biggest obstacle with a child with PDD-NOS is that they learn differently. And many regular education teachers just don't have the knowledge, understanding or training to help a child with this diagnosis reach their full potential. PDD is not a lack of intelligence, it is a different way of thinking and absorbing information. This is where it may be best (depending on the child) that they be put into special ed with qualified teachers. Special ed does not mean that life is over. These children can go on to college (again, depending on the case) and leave happy and productive lives just like the rest of us. I really believe this when it comes to the autism spectrum.
