is he in a special ed preschool? I would think with that diagnosis he would be (my older son was diagnosed at 11years old). He should probably be in speech therapy. if he isn't you need to contact your local school system and ask them where to go to get help for him. They should do an evaluation, and I think they HAVE to provide him with services by law with his disability. My 2 year old has a motor speech delay, and is in speech therapy. When he turns 3 in November he stops getting early intervention services, and if he qualifies will start getting preschool services throught the local schools. We start the screening process in June or July so he can start the day after he turns 3.How do i help my 3 year old son with pdd-nos talk better and more often?
Lots of talking to and with him.. even if he tries to tune you out, sit down with him and play with his toys with him.. if he's playing with cars, you take a car and say, "ohhh look, I have the red car! It's fast, it goes vroom, vroom! Look at my car go!" and roll it to him or something. Get him engaged. There are bingo games where you listen to a sound on a cd, then cover the square, get one or two and after each sound pause it and ask him "what do you think that way? If he just points at the picture, you say "oh, you think it was a ____?" I have a book called "More than Words" written for autistic children. It's by Fern Sussman. It's a Hanen Program publication. If your son is getting early intervention services, you might ask them if they have that book to borrow or Hanen stuff for you to read. Otherwise, try googling it. My mom bought me the book years ago on Amazon, but it seem as if the only ones on there are $150! I can't imagine my mom paid that.
Good luck and happy playing! How do i help my 3 year old son with pdd-nos talk better and more often?
talk to him about everything, ask questions and wait for a response. I found the Baby Einstein videos were helpful, they show multiple pictures of an item and then repeat the word over and over.
