Jack gets very frustrated and angy and lashes out at me and himself, he punches, pinches and kicks. I am trying everything to stop this but would be grateful if there is any ideas anyone has for me please.I have a 5 year old boy with pdd-nos please help with aggression?
First, make sure you don't hit back. That's really not a good idea for a child with PDD; it will just make his aggression worse. While his diagnosis shouldn't be just used as an excuse for him to act up, it doe explain why he lashes out. Could he possibly be having sensory overload when he gets aggressive? If so and he's feeling overwhelmed, try putting him in his room. Let him roll around on the ground, kick, scream, and cry if he needs to. Another idea is to get him a little trampoline to jump on when he's in one of his moods.
I would also suggest taking him to a developmental pediatrician if you haven't already. He or she can help you create a behavior plan for your son. Good luck and hang in there.I have a 5 year old boy with pdd-nos please help with aggression?
Yes, quit begging pleading and bargaining with this child about his behavior.Set the example you want him to follow by showing patience, understanding and gentleness. When he throws a fit, you say, we are not going to allow that anymore and spank him good.Put him in time out then afterwards, explain to him you love him but he is not going to behave like that any more and keep the discipline consistent. When you see him begin to get frustrated make him stop and think ABOUT what he is getting frustrated with, give him a time out if need be.I have a 5 year old boy with pdd-nos please help with aggression?
It is true about them getting overwhelmed. My daughter was the same way and we just had to kick and scream. We also had to teach her how to express herself without having the fits when she was upset. Good luck!
