My 6 yr old has PDD NOS and ODD. I feel that he was diagnosed wrong and my side more towards Asperger's, but since his dad (who sees him 4 days a month) filled out a survey also, they ruled it PDD. What kind of help does this entitle him to? Can we get help from the state or organizations for Autism spectrum disorders? Will this entitle him to an advocate that can get schools to comply and to get his dad and dad's gf to stop humiliating him, accusing him "ruining their weekends" and stop them from verbally abusing him? I NEED HELP!Is PDD NOS cosidered a disability? ?
yes it is considered a disability and even if it wasnt, you can try to sue for full custody becaus e a father should not treat ANY child like that.
I say you tell his father that unless he stiops treating him like that he is going to loose visitation rightsIs PDD NOS cosidered a disability? ?
I would call your local MRDD agency and ask them what he qualifies for. My son has PDD-NOS and ADHD and he gets funds that can be used for therapy, meds and all kinds of other things. I would also get a doctor to state that the dad and the GF are affecting him adversely with thier behavior towards him and ask to have the visitation further limited, or supervised. As for school, ask for a team to do an eval and write an IEP so he can get an aide or whatever other services he needs from the school

If you think the diagnosis is incorrect, get a second opinion. Often time PDD-NOS is changed to Asperger's or HFA later on when other symptoms become apparent.Regardless, though, PDD-NOS is still an autism spectrum disorder and should be treated as such. the same things that help and Aspie kid should help a PDD-NOS kid.
As to whether it's a disability, it depends on the severity. I'm trying to determine at the moment if mine is severe enough to be considered a disability, but haven't come to a conclusion yet.
