It has been my dream since I was 15 I have PDD-NOS and I hope I can join up. Is it waivable? I am 18 now and have made mostly As in all my classes and have good PT stats.Joining the military with PDD-NOS?
Lots of people on the autistic spectrum have joined the military and done quite well. On the other hand, lots of people would be terrible for it and put themselves and their units in danger. Stimming, meltdowns, etc...all those "typical" behaviors would be completely unacceptable and inappropriate in the military. If you have a formal DX and have been on meds, you will need a waiver and to have been off meds for a year. Other than that, if you are able to function well on your own, there is nothing in the AFIs (Air Force Instructions) at least that specifically bars ASDs, as the above poster mentioned.Joining the military with PDD-NOS?

Ihonestly thought that any form of autism would be a disqualifier, but according to the above website you may be able to with a waiver. A recruiter can help you with that process. May take lots of paperwork, documentation. Also, study hard for the ASVAB to get a good score to improve your chances.
