What exactly is PDD-NOS?

I am writing a research paper about autism and I am, of course, including the Autism Spectrum Disorder and explaining all five of the disorders that it includes. I am not finding a way to describe PDD-NOS if somebody could help me, that would be great. What exactly is PDD-NOS?
pervasive developmental disorder--not otherwise specified.

It means that there are autistic symptoms, but the patient doesn't quite fit the criteria for autism, asperger's, etc. It's a similar disorder, but usually milder, and while some symptoms present in autism will be present in PDD-NOS, other symptoms present in autism will be absent, and PDD-NOS will have symptoms that autism doesn't.

Symptoms of a pervasive developmental disorder can include:

-Difficulty using and understanding language

-Difficulty relating to people, objects, and events

-Unusual play with toys and other objects

-Difficulty with changes in routine or familiar surroundings

-Repetitive body movements or behavior patterns
