I have no clue on where to start to figure it out what to read or anything I feel very over whelmed!??? my son is 7 an a half! and has all the symptoms! Please help in pointing me int he right direction? Is it autism? Or is it Aspergers?
Thanks,
Thought a diagnoses would help it just confused me more.Does anyone else know where to even start to research PDD NOS my son was diagnosed today?
It is an autistic spectrum disorder, but it isn't classical autism or Asperger's, it is a sole disorder, separate from them both but he may have symptoms of both of these...it's kind of like having his own unique disorder but has many things in common with autistic spectrum disorders. The internet is full of information on PDD-NOS and other autistic disorders and behaviors that you can look at to see if he meets any of those in the next few years.
The reason you are confused is that there is no NOS means that it simply a mild case of autism rather than Asperger's Syndrome; and Asperger's Syndrome is going to be eliminated from the DSM V anyway. You are right to be suspicious of diagnoses, because modern psychologists really don't understand what autism is, how it came about or how to cure it. I suggest you check out Dr. Stanley Greenspan's "Floor Time." The reason is this: He believes that autistic children have a rich inner life that the child conceals from the world because he does't trust it. His approach is one of the very few that has a proven track record.

my 9 year old grandson has PDD-NOS. it ,like aspergers is a form of autism. they are both considered to be high functioning autism. who diagnosed your son? that would be a good place to start on information. especially if it was a psychiatrist or a neurologist. online is where i found a lot of good information. also a good child psychologist can help you out. remember to give him lots of love and patience. you will both need it. my grandson along with his dad and sister live with my husband and i.
I would start reading online first. That's the only way or to call a social service worker and ask him or her where to start. They'd be glad to point you in the right direction.Does anyone else know where to even start to research PDD NOS my son was diagnosed today?
I googled it and there are tons of links.
This one looks like a good one;
