His Language development is very low. He knows a lot of words but he doesn't use them on a daily basis, or puts them in a sentences. He mostly points at things and makes noises. I have been trying to work with him making books, forming sentences with words and pictures, labeling, telling the words before giving him anything, but still his progress is very very slow. What can i do? How can I help him become more verbal? How do I help my student with PDD-NOS develop language?
You could use picture symbols to start with, just to get him used to communicating and being understood. How do I help my student with PDD-NOS develop language?
You mentioned he points at things he wants and you say the words before giving it to him.Try pretending you are not sure what he wants, and make him say the word for what he wants. It will take some patience ,there may be crying and feet stomping before he says the word but when he does, repeat the word and praise him for saying it.Not knowing the age, hard to say how to reward but maybe a sticker or something that reinforces how happy you are he said the wordHow do I help my student with PDD-NOS develop language?
If you are in a public school, you are suppose to follow the special ed law IDEA and make a written request to the district special ed director for child to be evaluated to determine special ed eligibility. Have you been told that this is what you are suppose to do when a child is 'suspected' of having learning disabilities?
Teachers/schools do not legally have to provide any help for children unless a child is in special ed. If they do, the next years teacher may scrap the whole thing and teh child will further suffer.
The problems this child is having needs to be addressed by someone trained and qualified in the area of the childs disability.
