I believe I have Aspergers syndrome I started reading medical books at age 5 or 6 when I was younger I would read sports illustrated and world allmanacs and watch the the News.I never had alot of friends.Sometimes when people say things I don't understand it I stare at people I rub my hands together really fast.I have a Photographic memory I can remember all the states and capitals.I stare at the sky sometimes.I loved maps since I was 5 They diagnosed me with pdd nos I believe I was mis diagnosed.I belived I was MISDiagnosed with Pdd Nos.?
PDD.NOS is the common first diagnosis, and what most people on the autistic spectrum receive at that age. PDD.NOS is atypical autism, or autistic features. A lot of this is based upon clinical opinion, but there are certain tests like GADS (Gilliam asperger's disorder scale) and GARS (Gilliam autism rating scale). PDD.NOS is a generic umbrella diagnosis. Most people on the autism spectrum regardless of degree have typical behaviors, autistic traits, and asperger traits. The diagnosis of a specific autistic spectrum disorder is based upon what the specialist feels the person fits the most.
I have been diagnosed with autistic disorder and asperger's syndrome over the years but never PDD.NOS. I do recognize that I have HFA (high functioning autism) traits, and asperger traits, and honestly depends on the situation on which category I fit better. Now a lot of specialists as an adult are quick to say asperger's because I completed college, live independently, am married, and have a family. I consider myself to be both aspie/autie.
My brother, also diagnosed on the spectrum as a child with PDD.NOS also completed college, and lives independently. Most specialists too say he is asperger's more than PDD.NOS now at 35 years old, though even at 10, he still got PDD.NOS. He does not claim the diagnosis, he claims ADHD and SAD (seasonal affective disorder). He works on computers.
I find this asperger AQ test/symptoms to be very accurate of myself, and I score super high 42/50 (an average typical score for a female is 11)

My father was also diagnosed in 1950 with 'strong autistic traits'. He was reading the bible at age 3 (hyperlexia). He is married (3rd time) and is a clinician, a psychologist at a residential autistic program. He has been consistently diagnosed asperger's and claims the diagnosis.
My oldest son is riding under PDD.NOS. He was first diagnosed at 2. He has had both GARS and GADS, both come out with scores that say unlikely, possibly, likely, extremely unlikely etc.I belived I was MISDiagnosed with Pdd Nos.?
truthfully...does it really matter? Both are on the autism spectrum.
My almost 14 year old son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at 11 years old. After I saw an answer that Beetlemilk posted a few months ago, I realized that he is actually a mixture of Aspergers and PDD-NOS. As far as I know, it really does not change anything...He still gets funds from the board of developmental disabilites, he still qualifies for an IEP at school, he still sees Doctors at the "autism clinic" here in town.
Personally, depending on who I am talking to,I may say he has either one. SO many people have never heard of PDD-NOS, but they have heard of Aspergers and Autism. I would say that if you identify as Aspergers, just say you have it if it makes life easier.I belived I was MISDiagnosed with Pdd Nos.?
Ok...maybe that's something you should be bringing up to your doctors then...??
