Asperger's syndrome is a form of autism where an individual has impairments in social communication and repetitive and restrictive interests that limit and impair everyday functioning.
PDD-NOS is a form of autism where an individual has social impairments in social communication and repetitive and restrictive interests that do not meet the full diagnostic criteria for any other form of pervasive developmental disorder (excluding through mildness of symptoms). These must also limit and impair everyday functioning.
24% of PDD-NOS individuals have Asperger's like symptoms, but can't be diagnosed due to mild intellectual impairment and/or transient language delay. Another 24% have autistic disorder like symptoms but can't be diagnosed because of late age of onset or other reasons. The remaining 54% displayed fewer stereotyped and repetitive behaviors, therefor not meeting the diagnostic criteria for other ASDs.What the Difference between Aspergers and Pdd-nos?
They are both high functionng flavors of autism, but have slightly different symptoms. People with Asperger's have no significant language delays or disorders. They may have odd speech patterns, but it's not required. If someone had the symptoms of Asperger's AND speech delays or a language disorder they might be labelled PDD-NOS. That's just one way they might choose one label over the other, but you see the differences can seem subtle to the non-trained.What the Difference between Aspergers and Pdd-nos?
They are both abnormal to human life.
