4 year old pdd nos throwing temper tantrums?

Hi!

I was wondering if any of you that have worked with children with pdd nos have dealt with the *fits*. My 4 year old daughter seems to have a complete melt down over the smallest things like dropping a fork. she is averaging 4 meltdowns a day. Most include screaming at the top of her lungs that she is being hurt, even though no one is touching her. They last anywhere from 3 min- an hour and for the most part she doesnt seem to be able to pull herself out of it on her own. She seems to get *stuck* I'm at my wits end and am having zero luck finding her services. How do you deal with these melt downs? Are there any products you found worked well in general? I've put her on a schedule as much as possible, but i also have another child and cant set a rigid schedule.4 year old pdd nos throwing temper tantrums?
My son, now 4, has PDD NOS as well. I am fortuneate that its pretty rare he has tantrums - and if he does, its over pretty normal, 4 year old issues. When he does throw a tantrum, I ignore it for the most part, or he usually wants to hug me when he starts them, and it breaks my heart but I have to say "when you are all done crying, mommy will hug you". That usually stops them pretty fast.

Anyways - with that said, I have a very good friend who's son sounds similar to your daughter. He would freak out many times a day over these minute things.... like a lightbulb burning out, someone looking at him, etc. It made life a nightmare. What worked for him is they saw a neurologist who suggested trying him on Paxil, since he felt the tantrums were coming from extreme anxiety (common in kids with PDD NOS) - anyways, it worked wonders for him.

What has helped my son, and my friend's son tremendously though, is they are in a full time preschool program where they receive free services through the school system - speech, OT and PT. I'm concerned when you say you've had zero luck getting services for her..... does that mean she's not receiving any therapies?? Because she needs it, and it would help her immensely.

I wish you the best of luck!!!!4 year old pdd nos throwing temper tantrums?
Look into ABA therapy-it really helped my son.
