My son just started Vyvanse -- Anyone have an opinion on it?

Son has ADHD and has been diagnosed (recently) with PDD-NOS. We had him on Adderall XR many years ago (he is 12 now and was on Adderall when he was 7). He didn't do well on the Adderall at all. Made him super focused on the 'wrong' things (ex: he spent hours pulling on a string on his sock and ended up 'unraveling' the entire sock). We started him on the vyvanse over the weekend and I didn't see any 'odd' behavior, but noticed a decrease in appetite. Today is his first day at school with it and wanted to know what other parents/students thought of the medication. Thanks in advance for your feedback. My son just started Vyvanse -- Anyone have an opinion on it?
It has less potential for abuse. I don't recommend any of the powerful, and addictive central nervous system stimulants. An increased incidence of abuse of cocaine, crack cocaine, crystal meth, and other amphetamines has been reported among users of Ritalin, and other amphetamine related medications, which may well predispose them to later abuse street drugs, with all the undesirable consequences involved. The only medication for it not in the stimulant family that I know of is Strattera, which is structurally related to the antidepressants, and carries risks, and side effects of its own; see www.drugs.com. People in most Western countries often get several times more Omega 6, than Omega 3, when a far healthier ratio is 1:1 and that deficiency is thought to be a major factor in ADD/ADHD. Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. My 9 yo daughter has been on 50mg of Vyvanse for about 12 months. She gets great results during the day however around 4-7 pm she cannot focus and when asked to do an undesirable task (i.e. homework) she becomes extremely hostile , agitated , physical , and has no remorse. This is a common side effect and we are looking at getting her off of this. She has absolutely no appetite during the day. Some folks do not have the negative side effects but I know enough cases that do and would recommend close monitoring of behavior. PS . Some of that other info in the extensive post is not accurate.
