i have a friend that has an 11 year old girl that has pdd nos
isnt she supposed to be doing therapy or something isnt that a form of autism?????
i was just wondering cuz she told me she has pdd nos and she really doesnt do anything for this little girl that is so behind
i was wondering what she should be doin so i can tell11 year old?
My brother was diagnosed with PDD NOS when he was four (he is now 21), and my friend's sister (who is 13) is autistic. Yes, PDD NOS is in the autism spectrum. NOS means not otherwise specified, which means the the girl's symptoms does not fit quite right in any of the other catagories. As far as I know, it is the school's job to provide a reasonable IEP, and this is probably the best that can be done for the girl. I have never heard of any sort of therapy for autism.
Academically, these kids are often behind, so I wouldn't be too worried. But, my brother, for example, did really well in school despite this diagnoses (he graduated 12th in a class of 150), so probably the best thing the mother can do is to make sure her daughter is going to a school with a good special education program so that she can ensure her daughter gets the education that she deserves. I know that there is no way that my brother would have succeeded so much if it weren't for the good education that he was provided.11 year old?
Sorry I don't know, but your avatar is cool!11 year old?
I didn't know what PDD was either so I looked it up.
Apparently PDD stands for pervasive development disorders and NOS....stands for not otherwise specified, which usually means that something fits the basic elements of the disorder but not some of the specific criteria.
There are several disorders that are considered to be pervasive development disorders including autism's, asperger's, rett's and other disorders.
Thus autism would be one form of a PDD.
Most school's have Individual Educational Plan's for these students classifying them as special education students and providing services to aid in their learning. Depending on the extent of the disorder the child may or may not need to attend a special school designed to meet the specific needs of the child.
These children are going to generally fall behind their peers because of the type of disorder they have. You could always ask the mom about what the child is doing in school to see what's happenning.
Therapy may or may not be called for in the situation it depends on the child, the educational services and the parent.
You question isn't terribly specific so their is no way to determine if the situation is one of neglect or if you simply do not have all of the information.
One would need to know the severity of the disorder, the interventions in place and the home environment in order to begin to answer the question.
What is this pdd nos? Never heard of it. How old are you, BTW? You sound very young like 11 yourself.
I have a life, I however, do not know what pdd nos is, I asked what that was and was never answered. You still sound very young.
