My son was also diagnosed with PDD at 2 1/2 yrs old. Also had tantrums and spoke very rarely. We have gone thru 3 different evaluations, separated by some time, to get a better idea of what to do....but until I read Jenny mcCarthy's 2 books and really started to understand what was actually happening with him, we really had seen little to no real results in progress. He has been in a preschool program since age 3, he is now almost six. I guess my advise to you would be to ask yourself what you see as physical symptoms, such as eczema, chronic diareah or other stomach issues, ear nose and throat issues, along with other things that you may have been told were insignificant or those things just go along with autism. With my son, though, as time went on, all these "symptoms" continually got worse, and absolutely unavoidable. Six months ago, after I read J. McCarthy's books, I started seeing what is called a DAN (or defeat autism now) doctor. He is a naturalist and specializes in biomedical therapies. I have recently started a glueten/caesin free diet, which is milk and wheat free. And as time goes on I have also tried to avoid things like soy, corn, nuts, and eggs. Many kids on the autism spec. have food sensitivities or allergies and other digestive problems. I'm still making small steps in progress. I will tell you that for my son the tantrums stopped almost completely after starting the diet and giving him the supplements that the DAN doctor prescibed and his comprehension improved! He's not cured, but he is better!
The diet is overwhelming at first, so join a support group in your area I%26lt;MMEDIATELY for parents with autism, they can also help guide you along and you can com, pare notes and get pointers from other parents that have similar issues with their kids. My most important advice would be, to listen to your doctor, and other parents, but only YOU know what is best for your child. Take it one step at a time...and try your very best not to get overwhelmed. My question is where should I begin as a parent with to work on curing my son of autism.?
That is great!!!!! This process is overwhelming. So from what I read, I need to work on changing his diet first?

My question is where should I begin as a parent with to work on curing my son of autism.?Yes that right tikib01 changing his diet will automatically change the way his brain is structured. You can still allow him to have tantrums. Oh please you and I both know that is not real autism. Your family just has a history of extremely bad diet going back generations.Good diet improves anyone

First of all autism cannot be cured. It is a genetic condition. You can teach him to calm down and control his behaviour though.
Get in touch with an Applied Behaviour Analysis Therapist in your area; he will need therapy every day.
Children with autism are intolerant to wheat and dairy so avoid foods which contain them.
Omega 3 oils are very good for autistic individuals - available in oily fish, olive oil, almonds etc
A good book for you to read would be "The Explosive Child" by Ross W Greene. He explains about how a young child goes into 'meltdown' - he is very upset and angry AND unable at that time to take in and understand anything that is being said to him.
