Section 8 has a 3 year backlog in Monroe county.
IU 20 (intermediate unit) serves the monroe county schools.

A fair warning- they are NOT good schools. When I last worked in a nearby district (and I was involved academically with the three other districts in the county as well) there were often conflicts between the IU and the school and parents had to struggle CONSTANTLY. I know this to be especially true in Stbg. school district via a few close friends who still work within the district.

There are some very good teachers and administrators but unfortunately they are very limited in their scope of power. I happened to be there because there is a nearby U. and it is a good commuting area, but I would not have had children there. There are some good private schools in the Lehigh Valley if you can provide transportation, and there are a few that cater to children such as yours. I wish you the best of luck, but it will be a struggle.



Oh and as another poster said there is no functional section 8 housing in Monroe county- I have seen kids have to go in and out of school because they could not get a stable address. And there is no affordable housing- it's a strange place- it is a very expensive backwoods ghetto, really. The crime is ridiculous for such a small community, generally drugs and violence. It gives me shivers to think about it. There are other municipalities with more cooperative school administration outside of the county. If you want further info you can email me. I know I always felt awful for the families as an employee whose hands were tied, I can't IMAGINE having to deal with it as a parent. They really are not capable or willing to deal with something like PPD; your son deserves better than they will provide and the stress of battling it it will affect your quality of life.
