My 6 yr old has become too much for me?

Pdd-NOSMy 6 yr old has become too much for me?
Uhm. Don't do anything you;d be thrown in jail for..
Are you asking what that is??

PDD-NOS stands for Pervasive Developmental Disorder- Not Otherwise Specified.

It is a temporary diagnosis which says that the child displays many characteristics of autism, but not all of them. The criteria to have autism are communication, social and behavioural... you can look up specific info on google if you're wondering what counts as communication or social or behaviour.

Of course you know your child best, but there are many coping methods in place already so it's a good idea to read books about autism. I like:
-Postcards from the Road Less Travelled
-Ten Things A Child With Autism Wishes You Knew
-Daniel Isn't Talking
-Autism the Musical (it's a documentary film)
-George and Sam

There are also a lot of good videos on YouTube made by parents, showing footage of their children, of the therapy they've done, and with info. It's a good way to connect with actual parents without leaving your house. You can also e-mail me if you like (I have two autistic children).

You should also search for childhood development centers in your area which offer therapies such as ABA, IBI, OT, speech, etc.My 6 yr old has become too much for me?
Hello Amber,

It sounds like you could use some support! You're not alone! Parenting can be super challenging, and much patience is needed with children who have special needs. I would strongly encourage you to find a supportive group of friends and experts who can help you through the challenging days ahead. Everybody needs tips and advice! You are courageous to ask for it!

I submitted an article to yahoo today called "Trick or Treat Parenting Style" (by Barbara Tuttle) - you can type the title and my name in the toolbar if you'd like to read it. The article names a few support groups that might be really helpful to you, like Parents Without Partners (if that applies) and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) Here are the web addresses to those great organizations...www.parentswithoutpartne鈥?and www. mops.org/ I realize that your child is not a preschooler, but if your child is developmentally delayed you may find some appropriate tips from other moms there.

I also submitted an article on yahoo called "Whiny Day Activities for Preschoolers" that has lots of fun things to do with kids when they are just "out of sort." When kids get whiny, it can be a very trying time for parents, and having some fun activities up your sleeve for days like that can be a big help!

Good for you for reaching out for help on Yahoo! Answers. You will find the help you need in your local community by reaching out to organizations like the ones listed - you can look in the phonebook online, or in local churches and community centers to find a supportive friendships.

Also, you might share your feelings with your child's teacher. They probably will know of good resources in your community!
Your JOKING??
