Do you know anything about Reactive Attachment Disorder?

I have a 5 year old student with pervasive developement disorder (PDD. NOS) and reactive attachment disorder. Any information on how reactive attachment disorder effects a child would be helpful.Do you know anything about Reactive Attachment Disorder?
Reactive Attachment Disorder is a condition in which a child develops a mistrust for caregivers, impeding upon effective attachment behavior. The developmental stages following the first three years are distorted, and common symptoms, such as aggression, a lack of impulse control, and preoccupation with dangerous things, may emerge. A child exhibiting such behaviors should receive an evaluation by a mental health professional in order to determine the exact cause of them. Reactive Attachment Disorder is most common in children who have experienced trauma during infancy.Do you know anything about Reactive Attachment Disorder?
RAD occurs in many kids who have been in orphanages or multiple foster homes. the child is not able to form an attachment to a caretaker, due to lack of love and caring from an adult in the early infant years. The child does not trust. No amount of trying to show the child there is love and trust is helpful. It can be very frustrating to the parent who just wants their child to love them back, trust them and be normal. It takes a skilled child therapist to guide the parent in activities to overcome this. Combining this with PDD, oh boy. Difficult situation.Do you know anything about Reactive Attachment Disorder?
There are really good on line support groups that have specific areas for teachers. Having a child with RAD I for one wish that all teachers would become familiar. The child will triangulate the teachers and parents before you even know what hit you! Parents are more often than looked upon like the one with problem, because these children tend to be manipulative with teachers....unless they stumble upon a teacher that knows what is going on. Once the know you know, they will let it all out. For many of these children they hold it in all day long, and the minute they get with Mom/Dad (primary care giver) where they feel more safe to be who they are, all hell breaks loose. So you can see why other adults in the community would have such a hard time believing that anything is wrong.

I applaud you for taking the time to learn about this disorder. You will be so much help to this family, and others that will surely follow!
