such as Aspergers, autism, PDD, PDD-NOS, etc.Why are there so many more males than females diagnosed with certain disabilities?
Sometimes it is a genetic component - some disabilities can only occur in males vs females or vice versa. Some, as appears to be the case with autism spectrum disorder - male behavior is more problematic and so they are more likely to be diagnosed. A typical female response might be to be more compliant and a male response more aggressive - it responds to the same stimuli just in opposite ways. Other times a behavior in a female is tolerated, but not in a male - or vice versa. A passive, bookish, non-communicative, smart girl who seems unable to get her act together to be career driven is not considered disabled whereas a boy is. They just think she is destined to be a wife and mother (whether she wants to be or not), but boys really aren't every thought to be a stay-at-home-dad and husband.
genetics
males have XY
females have XX genes..
many conditions affect the X gene...since males only have 1 they are affected more
but females have 2, so if one is bad, the other takes over
some of it is that boys are just diagnosed more even though a lot of females do have the condition...
a theory with autism is the levels of testosteroneWhy are there so many more males than females diagnosed with certain disabilities?
Because of the differences in males and females it is often easier for females to cope with their disabilities and their disabilities can go unnoticed and undiagnosed. Males have a tougher time and they are easier to notice and diagnose.
There a many disease that effect more females than males too. Like MS, RSD/CRPS, and many other conditions effect more female than men.Why are there so many more males than females diagnosed with certain disabilities?
Men and women are similar and suffer from many of the same diseases, but we are also different and therefore subject to many disorders that are more sex-specific.
Yes, it is genetics.
Few men suffer from brest cancer and I believe none get cervical cancer.
Men get fewer migraine headaches and do not suffer from severe PMS.
Stress.
